WiseAge (Norway)
SESAM (Centre for Age-Related Medicine, Stavanger University Hospital, Norway) established WiseAge in 2015 as a platform for recruitment of user involvement in research and dissemination of research results to the society. All research projects at SESAM must have a user representative. WiseAge has about 80 members, with a minimum age of 60 years, with vast experiences and knowledge.
SESAM has a structure that supports user involvement in research, among others a research school for user representatives and a handbook “SESAM’s guide to user involvement in research.” The user representatives are appointed by WiseAge.
The user involvement group in PREDICTOM has five members, all coming from WiseAge.

Elin Thuen
Group leader
My name is Elin Thuen. I have worked as an associate professor at the University of Stavanger. My background is in pedagogy and educational psychology. The focus of my research has been on the learning environment in schools, including an autonomy-supportive environment, and on stress and coping among children and young people.
I joined WiseAge when I retired four years ago. I am interested in how to deal with an ageing society, including how to maintain a healthy and independent life as long as possible. In this connection, research on prevention and treatment of cognitive impairments is important. I hope that my background, and being elderly myself, make me able to bring user perspectives into research projects. This is why I wanted to be a user representative in PREDICTOM.

My name is Anne Elisabeth Dahle. I have worked as a researcher at The National Centre of Education and Reading at The University of Stavanger. My research focus is on dyslexia and additional problems related to dyslexia, such as language problems, mathematical problems and attention problems. Though I have retired from work, I still have a special interest in research.
A person in my nearest family died of Alsheimer disease, which explains my interest in research in this area. I hope that joining WiseAge and participating as user representative in PREDICTOM will expand my knowledge in this area.

My name is Kari Fredriksen. I am 70 years old and I retired from work just a few months ago. I have worked at the Learning and Coping Centre at Stavanger University Hospital. The Centre’s main purpose is patient education, and user participation is an important part of that education.
In my view, user participation is particularly important in health research. That is why I joined WiseAge and want to participate as one of the user representatives in PREDICTOM.

My name is Pamela Cranner. I have a post graduate degree in Human Communication, have taught in the Norwegian school system and am a sculptor.
For several years I had the responsibility of caring for an elderly family member with a complex medical condition. This experience brought both knowledge, insight, a thankfulness for Norway's healthcare system and a wish to reciprocate to benefit future generations.
I was introduced to WiseAge through a friend and found an exciting research environment dedicated to the practical, psychological, and medical challenges of the elderly. It is extremely rewarding being involved in dementia research and I feel honoured to be an active member of WiseAge.
